Tourrettes is 2 km (5 mins drive) away and is one of the prettiest villages in France yet very unspoilt. It is a 14th century mediaeval hill village with a charming square and narrow cobbled streets housing artisans and craft shops.
It has two cafes, Le café du Midi and Le café du Sports, and several good restaurants – Chez Grand Mere, La Baccanale, Bistro Clovis (one Michelin star) and La Cave de Tourrettes (good local food and wine from the cellar). and.
There is a market every Wednesday in the village square and there are also excellent food shops, including two bakeries, fruit and vegetables, a delicatessen, two butchers, a pharmacy and a newsagent where you will find daily English newspapers.
Three excellent tennis courts are available at the club in the village and can be booked at the clubhouse.
Vence is 8 km away and is a cultural and historical centre with the Chapelle Matisse, Chateau de Villeneuve, Cathedral St. Veran and ramparts surrounding the medieval old town.
There is excellent food shopping in the Rue du Marche in the old town and there are also the Le Clerc and Casino supermarkets.
St. Paul de Vence is 8km away and is famous for its artistic connections. Visit the Fondation Maeght with its stunning sculpture garden and gallery. Lunch and dine on the terrace at the Colombe d'Or and view impressionist art - Picasso, Miro, Fernand Leger. St. Paul has also many shops and galleries.
Mougins, the hilltop village and gastronomic centre is 17 km away.
The sandy beaches of Juan-les-Pins, Antibes and Cannes are about 45 mins (25km) away. Cagnes sur Mer is 30 mins away. Marineland near Antibes is a waterpark ideal for children. Nice airport is about 30 mins away, Monte Carlo 1 hour.
There are excellent golf courses at Valbonne, Opio and Mougins.
